Eva’s Top 5 Protein Bars to Grab on the Go!

Whether you’re hitting the gym after work or trying to lull that 3 p.m. craving, choosing the right portable snacks is an important one to give you that energy boost to get you through your day. But what are the right snacks?

It’s an easier feat to make something at home – maybe a protein shake or noshing on some freshly made kale chips – but when you’re on-the-go you need something quick, easy, protein-filled and most importantly portable! Sure, that yogurt parfait was good in theory but you don’t want to deal with the potential mess or any perishable items in your gym bag.

But before we get into the great portable snacks out there, let’s chat about curbing your snacking binges.

***

Snacking can really wreck havoc on your healthy eating plan (close to 500 extra calories a day!) so here’s some suggestions on what you can do to avoid that uncontrollable urge.

• Be sure to eat all your meals – especially breakfast! You’ll be less likely to binge snack if you’re fulfilled with your meals
• Instead of a snack, have a drink. Often that hunger feeling can be curbed with a tall drink of water.
• Before you reach for that snack, wait 10 minutes and that urge may pass
• Keep the junk food out of the house and stock your fridge, desk drawers and gym bags with low-calories options
• Brush your teeth. Most food doesn’t taste very good after brushing, so this sly trick could avoid temptation
• Don’t snack at night. If you’re going to snack, do it earlier in the day so you can work it off!
• Avoid snacking on your kids’ food

Here are some great portable snack options…
* Trail Mix or mixed nuts
* Dried Fruit
* Raw Veggies
* Pumpkin seeds
* Whole grain crackers with almond butter
* Shelf-stable cheeses like Laughing Cow, string cheese or Baby Bel
* Apple sauce
* Bottled protein shakes
* Energy Bars
